With the Potsdamer Tanztage, the fabrik organises one of the most traditional theatre festivals in Potsdam and the only dance festival of its kind in the state of Brandenburg. Every year, the programme provides an insight into trends and developments in contemporary dance and presents international highlights and well-known choreographers, new discoveries and debut works.
In 2013 you can expect dance and performance artists from the Netherlands, Canada, France, Finland, Austria, Belgium, Spain and, for the first time, South Africa. Even though the Dance Days deliberately do not commit to a motto, themes around "freedom and borders" run like a thread through the pieces in this year's programme. A reunion with Pierre Rigal awaits you with the piece "Standards", in which he interprets the ideals of the French Revolution from the perspective of young hip hop dancers. Boyzie Cekwana, one of South Africa's most radical artists, looks at our food and the system of power behind its production and distribution. Eeva Muilu and Milja Sarkola unflatteringly but with humour and great care show the human body in its nakedness, strong and vulnerable at the same time, as a symbol of liberation from cultural and social constraint. Finally, in the interactive performance of "Le Sacre du Printemps" by Roger Bernat, you yourself have the freedom to be present in the piece as a dancer. In the midst of the garden on the Freundschaftsinsel, we celebrate the Sacre du Printemps after the version by Pina Bausch on the occasion of the 100th birthday of the ballet classic.
The festival offers a special programme for young audiences and families under the label Children's and Youth Dance Days with award-winning pieces from the Netherlands, Belgium and France. In addition to the performances, the broad workshop programme of the Dance Days offers further education for amateurs and professionals of different age groups. Special introductory events for individual performances and moderated artist talks accompany the performances, as does a concert series with bands and orchestras from jazz, pop and world music.
