Every year, the POTSDAMER TANZTAGE offer an insight into the most current works of the international dance scene. This time, twelve different dance companies from France, Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Canada, Belgium and Russia challenge us to encounter political, identitary and imaginative themes.
A ring with four acrobatic fighters, a dance piece about headphones, a garden with trees and fur rugs, a cardboard city inhabited by objects, spaces made of light... The dance productions invited to the festival occupy, this year especially, unexpected spaces in which dance and performance unfold as striking visions and interpretations.
For the opening of the festival, the German premiere of "Face Nord" by the acrobatic group Un Loup pour l'Homme (Lille) presents a survey of strength, risk-taking and trust. A ring serves as a stage and danger becomes the complete companion of this piece. In contrast, the world premiere of "Land-Research" by Israeli choreographer Arkadi Zaides is a journey into the landscape of the body against the backdrop of the struggle for land in the Middle East. Roger Bernat (Barcelona) uses headphones to move his stage into the heads of the audience. Nicole Beutler (Amsterdam) pits nature against culture in a kaleidoscopic dance ritual in "3: The Garden", while Miet Warlop (Brussels) creates a grotesque and surprising world with living objects in "Springville". In "Solaire", Fabrice Lambert (Paris) plays with the energy of the uncontrollable and shows a competition between dance, light and time. Two Fish (Berlin), Kombinat (Potsdam), Andrew De Rotbinière Harwood & Benno Voorham (Montréal/Stockholm) and Alexander Adriyashkin (Moscow) also enrich the view of our society and our environment with their pieces, sometimes narrative, sometimes abstract, always very personal. Five concerts (by Karl Hlamkin, Canto Antico, Feindrehstar, among others) complete the programme.
As an important part of the festival, the Kinder- und Jugendtanztage offer young audiences an encounter with dance. Odile Seitz (Berlin) presents "Intimité (Praticable)", an open-air piece for and with young people, and Barbara Fuchs (Cologne) invites the smallest audience members from the age of one to discover "Cephalopods".
The POTSDAMER TANZTAGE are known for the numerous opportunities for audience exchange through audience talks and workshops. The workshop programme has 24 offers for amateurs, professionals, children and adults to directly experience new forms of movement and expression.
