This morning class is a mixture of contemporary dance, flying low technique and traditional Lebanese dance Dabke. Musically accompanied by the percussions of Ayman Sharaf El Dine, the body is warmed up and set in motion. Small choreographies are learned dynamically, rhythmically and in a variety of ways.
Bassam Abou Diab has a degree in theatre from the Lebanese University and is a folklore and contemporary dance artist. He has been dancing with Omar Rajeh (Maqamat) for several years. He has performed in Mushrooms and Fig Leaves, Hibr, That Part Of Heaven and Watadour. In 2010 and 2011 he participated in the intensive dance training programme Takween and in 2017 he worked with a number of choreographers. He choreographed a number of pieces in which he is also a dancer: not connected, under the flesh, of what I remember and Incontro. In addition to his theatre work, Bassam is currently touring with his creation Under the Flesh.
Bassam Abou Diab is currently artist in residence at the fabrik Potsdam as part of DiR - Dance in Residence Brandenburg.
