Chiang-Mei Wang interweaves modern dance and Tai-Chi Dao Yin in The Floating Body. She combines modern dance techniques from Graham, Limón and Cunningham with elements of Tai-Chi Dao-Yin, a special Tai-Chi style in which body energy manifests itself in spiraling, wave-like movements. The power of the movement arises from the interplay of tension and relaxation and is based on a stable body center. The body itself becomes like the water: sometimes still, sometimes gently undulating, sometimes foaming up like the waves of the sea. Everything is moved by inner energy, known in Chinese as 'chi'. Chiang-Mei Wang trained at the National Institute of the Arts in Taipei/Taiwan. As a dancer and soloist, she has performed at the most important dance festivals in the world such as Sadler's Wells London. Since 1994, she has trained Tai-Chi Dao-Yin at Cloud Gate Dance Theater with Master Hsiung Wei.
