Seven dancers stand around the stage and then slowly move closer together. They move coherently, except for one, who remains motionless, like a child, mesmerised by the spectacle taking place in front of him. Chaos reigns all around him. Between fear, anger, and courage, Maciej Kuźmiński brings attention back to the bodies of the war witnesses whose experiences are shown on stage. The performance, created by a Polish-Ukrainian team that includes refugees, is a direct, physical, and silent testimony that speaks far more than the loud media images of war in dense repetition. Inspired by the personal stories of the dancers, Every Minute Motherland is conceived using documentary methods as a response to the war in Ukraine and the resulting refugee crisis.
