Encantado

Lia Rodrigues / Companhia de Danças (Rio de Janeiro)

11 – 12 May 2022 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2022Dance / performance

The “encantados” are mystical animated entities that belong to the Afro-American way of perceiving the world that move and turn the places they visit into sacred ones. They are said to create a bond between heaven and earth. In Lia Rodrigues’ latest production, a dozen dancers move and evolve in what looks like a sea of vivid patterned fabrics. Shapes, figures, and grimacing faces appear and vanish in a meditative and sculptural hide and seek. They appear, grow up, transform themselves like the encantados would do and embody manifold joys. A heady piece, rhythmed by chants and percussions like a ritual that takes the audience to an “enchanted” world, where magic meets reality.
