Where does your body begin? Where does mine end? In this intimate and playful duet Renae Shadler and Roland Walter explore our physical surface, the skin, as a porous barrier between interior and exterior – both boundary and point of contact.
In SKIN, the two performers find common movement languages that question the usual ideas of a “mixed-abled” choreography. They use their bodies and the various objects in the room to play and create unusual sculptures that offer the spectator a new perspective. Inspired by the qualities of sea anemones, liquids, and the surfaces of the earth, SKIN imagines a world in which there is no more or less “able” body.
Recommended from the age of 10.
The performance will take place on Sat 24 May as a relaxed performance (see credits).
SKIN was selected by Tanzplattform Deutschland 2022 and Aerowaves 2021.

On Sat 24 May: relaxed performance
Relaxed Performance means that the atmosphere at this event is more relaxed than what one might be used to in a theatre. This is especially intended to make it more enjoyable for people who find it difficult to visit the theater, ie. to sit still in hard chairs for long periods of time. This may include autistic people, people with Tourette's, learning difficulties or chronic pain, and parents with young children.
To provide this atmosphere, we are guided by the following agreements:
- Audience noises are allowed or even
- Children and baby noises are
- Freedom of movement is given: The audience is allowed to leave and re-enter the room at any time, for example to go to the toilet or to get some fresh
- There are no strobe lights and no extremely loud
- There is alternative seating in the form of cosy bean bags or matts in the front
- There is an option for 'early boarding,' i.e. an earlier entry into the theater to get used to the room and light Since the performers begin onstage, this can only happen 5 minutes before the show starts.
