DESIGNING VOICES presents sound and music performances with a focus on vocal performance art. The second edition of the three-day festival is themed Vocal Actions and presents vocal performance artists and musicians who have a unique approach to the sound of the human voice.
This year, the vocal quartet operadicals (Tone Åse [NO], Franziska Baumann [CH], Alex Nowitz [D] & Sten Sandell [SE]) will open the festival with Vokalaktionen 1 at the Paretz Akademie and close it with Vokalaktionen 2 at the Französische Kirche Potsdam. operadicals present works for voices, gesture-controlled live electronics and piano and also create abstract vocal landscapes in the form of choral miniatures, which they develop and present together with singers primarily from two local choirs - Ketziner Havelklänge and Salto Tonale.
The focus of the 2023 festival is The Long Night of Curious Voices, which will take place at the fabrik Potsdam. Isabelle Duthoit (FR), Katia Guedes (BR/DE), Carl-Ludwig Hübsch (DE), Christoph Reiserer (DE) and Richard Scott (UK/DE) will present themselves as soloists and enter into dialogue with each other in order to illuminate the fascinating idiosyncrasies of contemporary vocal performance art through the mutual play of voice, instrument and new technologies.
