“…when you ask a person to jump, his attention is mostly directed toward the act of jumping and the mask falls so that the real person appears.” Philippe Halsman

The Dog Days Are Over 2.0

Series Global Bodies | Jan Martens (Antwerpen)

17 Oct 2025 | Global BodiesDance / performance

Eight dancers leap in strict repetition – a physical extreme that pushes them to their limits. Inspired by Philippe Halsman’s idea that in mid-jump, the mask falls away, Martens presents a choreography poised between control and the loss of it. What begins as technical perfection gradually reveals the human within the mechanical: fatigue, resistance, defiance.

The Dog Days Are Over 2.0 turns physical performance into a stage for vulnerability – a powerful piece exploring discipline, exhaustion, and the limits of the body. In 2015, The Dog Days Are Over was presented at the Potsdamer Tanztage. With over 100 performances worldwide, the work marked the international breakthrough of Jan Martens. In 2.0, he returns with a new cast and a sharper perspective: precise, unrelenting, physically radical.

After the performance: JazzLab – Clash of choirs at fabrikclub

With Global Bodies, fabrik Potsdam opens its doors to the perspectives and artistic expressions of dance from around the world. Pulsating rhythms, political choreographies or poetic imagery reveal dance as a universal language that connects people and addresses contemporary issues.
