Parades & Changes, replay in expansion

Dancing future – 100 years of Bauhaus | Anna Halprin / Morton Subotnick / Anne Collod & guests (Paris/San Francisco)

20 May 2019 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2019Dance / performance

Putting into play daily actions altered by very simple instructions, performers cross the theatre with a series of parades. Sound bodies, objects, extended tempos and numerous sensory states form a "ceremony of trust" and reveal the process, the place, the action and the artists.
In the mid-1940s, the choreographer Anna Halprin began in California one of the most radical and fecund artistic adventures of the 20th century. She laid the foundations of performance as an art form, and opened a vast field of experimentations for American post-modern dance. Anne Collod invited a group of major European and American choreographers to reopen the construction site of Parades & Changes, Halprin's seminal work. In dialogue with Anna Halprin and the composer Morton Subotnick, they reenact the numerous scores of this work and, for the first time since the 1960s, offer a complete reinterpretation of the piece, which was banned in the USA for 25 years due to the use of nudity. Parades & Changes, Replay in Expansion presents a complete version of all scores of the 60s and opens the performance into the third dimension with four circus artists.
