Dimanche

Festival UNIDRAM | Cie Focus & Cie Chaliwaté (Belgien)

14 – 15 Oct 2022Visual theatre

Dimanche is a story of devastating natural disasters in three acts. Each act addresses a different disaster and the direct consequences on the life of one family. In a realm between surreal fiction and dry reality, with miniature vehicles, hyper-realistic puppets and illusionist film sequences, Dimanche observes the stubbornness of humanity as it tries to maintain normality despite the onset of the apocalypse. The result is an absurd, visually powerful, almost burlesque portrait of the human race which experiences the catastrophe from a distance as an illusion and is surprised by nature’s unpredictable power.

The Cie Chaliwaté ensemble specialises in movement theatre and tries to raise awareness of current events and topics such as the climate crisis using drama. Chaliwaté shares a fondness for visual and poetic theatre forms with the Cie Focus ensemble, and this resulted in their first joint work, Backup, in 2017. Both companies combine object theatre, puppetry, acting and video in their productions and create a unique visual, metaphorical theatre style by concentrating on the smallest details.
