Frozen Songs

Zero Visibility Corp / Ina Christel Johannessen (Oslo)

21 May 2020 | Potsdamer Tanztage 2020Dance / performance

Back in Potsdam, Ina Christel Johannessen presents Frozen Songs, a multimedia piece with intense physicality – a fruitful work about the survival of the species. With crystalline sounds, interactive stage design and menacingly beautiful video productions she creates a cold, oppressive and at the same time hopeful atmosphere. The changeable background is constantly integrated into the dance and sends the audience on a journey to the Scandinavian archipelago of Spitsbergen, where the world's most important seed bank is located. The combination of pulsating music and lifelike videos offers a true-to-life picture of the scenery of the far north, in which the dancers spectacularly portray a stubborn community in a hurry to survive. Concerned about climate change and the decline in biodiversity, the choreographer has undertaken a research trip to the Arctic archipelago of Spitsbergen. There, there is an underground archive in which more than 900,000 seeds of food plants are stored. End of the world? New genesis? Frozen songs seeds hope.
